The Nutritional Needs of Cats

In order to understand the nutritional needs of your Teacup Persian, there is one thing you need to remember – cats are obligate carnivores. This simply means that their bodies are adapted to digest and utilize animal products, not plant products. Whereas dogs are mostly carnivorous but can still tolerate carbohydrates, cats have a very limited ability to digest and absorb nutrients from plant foods. This means that protein – meat – is the most important nutritional consideration for cats. Fat is also important because it provides a concentrated source of energy, but meat is the primary focus.

As you may already know, protein is made up of amino acids and it provides the energy your Teacup Persian cat needs to fuel his healthy growth and development. Protein is important for all cats, but it is particularly important for kittens to help them grow properly. The best proteins for cats come from quality animal sources like meat, poultry, eggs, and fresh fish. These proteins are called complete proteins which means that they contain all of the essential amino acids your cat needs – essential amino acids are simply those that your cat’s body is incapable of producing on its own. Plant proteins contain some amino acids, but not all of them. Show More
